Under the leadership of Ambassador Yu, the trade relationship between Australia and the Philippines has flourished, fostering mutual growth and stronger connections. The Australian Government’s Southeast Asia Economic Strategy to 2040 aims to enhance economic ties with the Philippines, allocating $64.26 million over four years to boost trade and investment in the region. This strategy anticipates increased high-level business missions and pilot internships for young professionals in both Australian and Philippine companies.

In the cleantech sector, the Ayala Group’s subsidiary, ACEN, is developing major solar, wind, and hydrogen projects in Australia, including in New South Wales and Tasmania. ACEN’s collaboration with the Yindjibarndi people represents one of the largest renewable energy initiatives by First Nations Peoples in Australia, with a commitment of over $673 million for renewable energy projects in the coming years.

Additionally, Macquarie’s Blue Leaf Energy is investing $1.2 billion in a 1.3GW floating solar facility in Laguna Lake, and Corio Generation has secured contracts for five offshore wind projects.

Cyclion has also partnered with the Philippines’ National Development Company to convert municipal solid waste into energy.

Currently, over 250 major Australian companies operate in the Philippines, employing around 41,000 Filipinos across various sectors such as BPOs, infrastructure, banking, telecommunications, energy, and education.

The bilateral trade between the two countries has surpassed pre-pandemic levels, reaching $4.1 billion in 2023, according to the Philippines’ Department of Trade and Industry.

The strong collaboration between Australia and the Philippines in development, business, cultural exchange, education, tourism and migration continues to rise, benefiting both countries with close ties and democratic values.
