Valued at US$1 billion, landmark move for sustainable industry, the LEGO Group officially opened its newest production facility in April 2025 in Vietnam’s Binh Duong province.
LEGO’s expansion in Vietnam is part of a larger strategy to increase resilience and responsiveness in the Asia-Pacific supply chain while simultaneously driving forward its global climate and ESG commitments.
The facility is designed to run on 100% renewable energy by early 2026, powered by 12,400 rooftop solar panels and Vietnam’s first large-scale battery storage solution.
This marks a significant milestone not only for LEGO but also for Vietnam’s industrial sector, as it sets a new precedent for clean energy adoption and sustainable manufacturing in the region.
- Sustainability Leadership: The site is the first LEGO facility to achieve LEED Platinum certification for its administrative and play buildings, with other structures rated LEED Gold. It is also the only LEGO factory to use exclusively paper-based pre-pack bags, reducing single-use plastics.
- Clean Energy Integration: The combination of rooftop solar, battery storage, and power purchase agreements ensures the factory’s operations are powered entirely by renewables, supporting LEGO’s global target of net-zero emissions by 2050 and a 37% reduction by 2032.
- Community Engagement: LEGO’s educational programs in Vietnam, such as LEGO Braille Bricks and Girls Unstoppable, are set to reach over 60,000 children by the end of 2025, fostering learning through play and supporting local development.
Set to run fully on renewable energy by 2026, the facility features more than 12,000 solar panels installed across its rooftops. Additionally, LEGO is working in partnership with the Vietnam-Singapore Industrial Park (VSIP) to build an adjacent renewable energy hub. This center will house Vietnam’s first major battery storage installation, helping to maintain uninterrupted access to clean energy even during periods without sunlight. Any supplementary energy required will be sourced via agreements with local green power providers.
Sustainability is central to the factory’s design. It includes LEGO’s first LEED Platinum-certified buildings—specifically its main office and a dedicated play pavilion. The remainder of the site, including molding, packaging, and warehouse areas, has achieved LEED Gold certification, underscoring the brand’s commitment to high environmental performance.
The site is projected to employ up to 4,000 people once fully operational, boosting job opportunities and contributing to skills development in the region.
Its presence also supports Vietnam’s broader push for eco-friendly industrial growth and is expected to serve as a blueprint for future sustainable manufacturing initiatives.
