What is Ecotourism

Ecotourism goes beyond simply visiting natural places. It’s travel structured around conservation, community benefit and low-impact engagement with the environment.

At its core, it asks visitors to leave a destination better than they found it: supporting local economies directly, respecting Indigenous and cultural custodianship of land, and minimising the ecological footprint of getting there, staying there and moving through it.

Across Australia and Asia-Pacific, this is increasingly shaping how governments and operators think about tourism policy: from Bhutan’s high-value, low-volume model-  to marine park regulations protecting reef systems and mangrove corridors. Done well, ecotourism turns biodiversity and cultural heritage into long-term economic assets rather than resources to be extracted once and depleted.

Done poorly, as greenwashed marketing rather than genuine practice, it risks becoming just another label.

The distinction matters increasingly to investors and travellers alike, both of whom are learning to look past the branding to the substance underneath.

FNGN understands the distinction. We aim to bring you outstanding Projects, People, and Purpose who are passionate about the envrionment as well as design solutions – to harness and share the unique spots and beauty for all.
