THE opening underscores Synnex’s nearly 30-year presence in the Australian ICT market and reflects its continued commitment to strengthening national distribution capability, operational resilience, and partner support.

Synnex Australia, Taiwan’s information and communications technology (ICT) company, is the largest distributor of IT products in the Asia Pacific. Syntax has opened a state-of-the-art logistics facility and its new Oceania headquarters in Oakleigh South, marking a major milestone in the company’s continued expansion and commitment to the Australian market. Founded in 1988, the Synnex Group operates a global network of 26 logistics centres, including major hubs in Taipei and Taichung, supporting annual revenues of US$14.26 billion.

The Melbourne facility operates in close alignment with Synnex’s fully automated Sydney logistics centre and supports the company’s Australian business, which generates more than US$2.5 billion in annual revenue.

The $150 million purpose-built logistics facility will deliver world-leading hardware and digital solutions to strengthen and future-proof the state’s supply chain capabilities.

Spanning 44,000 square metres and standing 35 metres high, the facility features a highly automated storage and retrieval system (ASRS) with capacity for 22,000 pallets supported by over a kilometre of conveyor systems and over 25,000 square metres of advanced conveyor infrastructure. The ASRS enables precise, high-accuracy movement of goods throughout the warehouse, significantly enhancing speed, consistency, and scalability.

The relocation to the new facility involved the transfer of more than 600 containers and 7,200 pallets over four days, delivered through a joint task force spanning Synnex Group headquarters, Sydney Intelligent Logistics, and the Australian operations team.

Victorian Minister for Economic Growth and Jobs Danny Pearson said the investment reflects confidence in Victoria’s economy and future.

“This new headquarters and logistics facility are a strong vote of confidence in Victoria, creating jobs, strengthening supply chains, and supporting future economic growth,”

The new smart logistics centre uses advanced robotics and automation to boost Synnex’s storage and dispatch capacity and improve efficiency for its retail partners.

Synnex chose the Oakleigh site, in southeast Melbourne, due to proximity to customers, infrastructure, access to skilled, industry ready talent and cost efficiencies.

Southeast Melbourne offers access to:

  • Australia’s largest concentration of advanced manufacturing, defence, medtech and industrial firms.
  • Global and local tech-enabled manufacturers, creating strong peer and supplier networks.
  • A deep pool of technicians, software engineers and systems integrators experienced in hardware-software integration, not just pure software.
  • To graduates and researchers from Monash University, RMIT University and Deakin University, particularly in engineering, IT, data and applied research.
  • Large-format industrial and commercial sites suitable for R&D, prototyping, light manufacturing and testing

The new Melbourne headquarters and logistics facility is part of Synnex’s global network of 26 logistics centres, including major facilities in Taipei and Taichung.

Invest Victoria played a key role in progressing the project, working with Synnex to address critical set-up requirements. Support focused on facilitating skilled visa pathways, assisting with planning approval applications, and coordinating engagement with the local council to support a smooth approvals process.

By acting as a single point of contact across government, Invest Victoria helped reduce complexity and time to market, enabling the project to progress with greater certainty and confidence.

Synnex will add to Victoria’s thriving digital tech sector, which is the fastest-growing in the nation and contributes more than $36 billion to the state’s economy. It supports more than 306,000 workers, representing 30 per cent of Australia’s tech workforce.

It follows the recent major upgrade to Victoria’s digital infrastructure with telco company SUBCO laying more than 5,000 kilometres of fibre infrastructure and connecting the state to world’s global communications network for the first time – positioning Victoria as a prime location for large-scale, technology-driven businesses like Synnex.
