Osaka has long been recognized as a major hub for business, culture, and technology in Japan. The 2025 Expo is expected to attract 28 million visitors, providing an unparalleled platform for nations and companies to highlight their contributions toward a more sustainable and interconnected world.
For Australia, participation in the Expo is strategic. Japan is one of Australia’s largest trade partners, and Osaka—Japan’s second-largest metropolitan economy—is a major gateway for industries such as energy, education, health, and advanced manufacturing. The Expo provides a unique space for Australian companies to strengthen their presence in Asia and explore new business opportunities in areas like renewable energy, AI, biotech, and agribusiness.
The Australia Pavilion at Expo 2025 in Osaka is an expression of Australia’s warmth, energy and optimism, and of our diverse landscape.
Designed by famed Australian architectural group, Buchan, the design entitled “Chasing the Sun” is an abstracted form of a eucalyptus gumnut, depicting the diversity and resilience of Australian people. Taking visitors on an immersive, sensory journey, the exhibition will chase the sun across the land and water, moving from day to night and between real and surreal. (Buchan)
The design incorporates biophilic architecture, using natural materials and energy-efficient features that align with the Expo’s sustainability goals. Visitors will experience an immersive journey through Australia’s achievements in clean energy, smart cities, and scientific research, as well as a celebration of its Indigenous heritage and creative industries.

Opportunities for Australian Businesses
Koskela will provide the Australia Pavilion with some of their collaborative lighting products which fuse contemporary design with Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander art and culture. Their social impact projects have returned over AUD $1.6 million to First Nations communities.
The Expo represents a major opportunity for Australian businesses and startups looking to expand into Asian markets. With Japan and Australia sharing strong economic ties through agreements like the Japan-Australia Economic Partnership Agreement (JAEPA), the Expo provides a key platform for companies to attract investors, forge partnerships, and enter new markets.
Australian exhibitors will be able to engage in B2B networking events, industry forums, and government-led trade missions, facilitating connections with potential Japanese and global partners. Additionally, Australian small and medium-sized enterprises (SMEs) will benefit from exposure to millions of visitors and key decision-makers in emerging industries.
