Philippine’s Ayala Corporation is Expanding their Green Footprint in Australia and Southeast Asia

ACEN Aims for 20 gigawatts (GW) of renewable energy by 2030 and a Net Zero greenhouse gas emissions company by 2050. The company has facilities in the Philippines, Australia, Vietnam, Indonesia and India, with a renewable share of 99%, which is among the highest in the region.

The Ayala Corporation (AC) group, through its energy platform ACEN, is making significant strides in renewable energy, with key projects spanning Australia and Southeast Asia (SEA). These initiatives align with ACEN’s goal to achieve 20 gigawatts (GW) of renewable energy capacity by 2030 and to become a Net Zero greenhouse gas emissions company by 2050.

Major Projects in Australia

ACEN Australia head of operations and trading Michael Connarty, Ayala Corporation chairman Jaime Augusto Zobel de Ayala, ACEN President & CEO Eric Francia, and ZEN Energy executives Anthony Garnaut, Ryan McKee, and Geoff Titus

  1. New England Solar and Battery Project: Situated in New South Wales, this ambitious project includes a 720-megawatt (MW) solar facility coupled with a 400-megawatt-hour (MWh) battery energy storage system (BESS). It aims to supply renewable energy to the National Electricity Market.
  2. Stubbo Solar and Valley of the Winds Projects: These ventures form part of New South Wales’ Renewable Energy Zones, focusing on large-scale solar energy generation.
  3. Robbins Island and Jim’s Plain Wind Project: Located in North-West Tasmania, this wind project underscores ACEN’s commitment to harnessing wind energy.
  4. Battery Storage Project in New South Wales: In collaboration with Marubeni Corporation, this 200MW battery storage project is designed to enhance energy storage and grid stability.

Expanding Presence in Southeast Asia

Indonesia

Indonesia’s richest tycoon Prajogo Pangestu and Philippine billionaire Jaime Augusto Zobel de Ayala are teaming up to build wind projects and help Indonesia transition to a low-carbon economy. This “exclusive” partnership involves AC Energy Holdings Inc. (ACEN) and Barito Renewables Energy, Pangestu’s renewable energy arm.

AC Energy Holdings Inc., a subsidiary of Ayala Corporation, has partnered with UPC Renewables Indonesia Ltd. to develop, construct, and operate a 75-megawatt (MW) wind farm project in Sidrap, South Sulawesi, Indonesia. This project, known as the Sidrap Wind Farm, is notable for being the first utility-scale wind farm in Indonesia. The Sidrap Wind Farm began operations in early 2018 and has been a significant step towards Indonesia’s renewable energy goals. The collaboration between AC Energy and UPC Renewables aims to address Indonesia’s growing energy demand, especially in smaller islands, by harnessing wind power.

  • Wind power: ACEN has partnered with Barito Renewables Energy Tbk (BREN) to develop wind power plants in Indonesia. The partnership includes acquiring wind power development assets in South Sulawesi, Sukabumi, and Lombok.
  • Sidrap wind farm: ACEN is doubling the capacity of its Sidrap wind farm development in South Sulawesi from 75 megawatts to 150 megawatts.

Philippines

ACEN is developing a massive solar farm in Palauig, Zambales, with a capacity of 420 MWp and a battery energy storage system (BESS) component. This project aims to address the expected lack of supply and increasing demand for power in the Luzon grid.

Vietnam

ACEN has acquired Super Energy Corporation’s solar energy business, which includes 837 MW of solar projects. They are also involved in wind energy projects, such as the 88 MW wind farm in Ninh Thuan province.

India

ACEN, in partnership with UPC Renewables, is working on the Masaya Solar project in India. This project is a 300 MWac (420 MWp) solar power plant located in the Khandwa District of Madhya Pradesh. The Masaya Solar project is set to produce 691 GWh of clean power annually, helping to avoid approximately 635,720 metric tons of CO2 emissions each year.
